Description

Recreate a pristine, wild biotope in your aquarium with sustainably harvested Hobby Alder Cones. Gathered exclusively from untouched black alder trees (Alnus glutinosa), these 100% natural botanicals function as an organic water conditioner, health booster, and decorative aquascaping element all in one.
Why Choose Hobby Alder Cones?

  • Natural Water Conditioning: They gradually release essential humins and beneficial tannins, mimicking the soft, amber-tinted "blackwater" environments found in wild Amazonian and Southeast Asian habitats.
  • Gentle pH Regulation: Safely encourages a slight drop and long-term stabilization of the pH value, making it ideal for delicate, soft-water species like Shrimps, Bettas, Discus, and Tetras.
  • Prophylactic Health Support: The anti-microbial and antifungal properties of the released tanning agents help block unwanted bacterial growth and prevent fungal infestation of fish spawn.
  • Microfauna Grazing Hub: As the cones age, they create a vast surface area for biofilm to thrive, offering a continuous, natural food source for shrimp, fry, and bottom-feeders, as well as a rustic hiding place.
  • Boosts Plant & Breeding Success: Releases micro-amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur to promote aquarium plant growth. The authentic natural conditions also trigger spawning behaviours in many fish species.
Directions for Use

  • Preparation: For best results, rinse or briefly boil the cones to waterlog them so they sink immediately and clear any loose surface dust.
  • Dosage: Add 1 cone per 10 to 20 litres of aquarium water.
  • Replacement: The cones will slowly break down over time. Replace them every 2 to 3 weeks to maintain a constant supply of beneficial tannins.
